A portable fire extinguisher can save lives and property by putting out a small fire or containing it until the fire department arrives, but portable fire extinguishers have limitations. Because fire grows and spreads so rapidly, the #1 priority for people is to get out safely! Fire extinguishers are one element of a fire response plan, but the primary element is a safe escape. Every business and household should have a fire escape plan and working smoke alarms and detectors. If you have a second story consider adding a portable fire escape ladder to your home. Again, fire extinguishers can save lives and are easy to use! Portable fire extinguishers are NOT intended to be used for fighting large fires!
